In a recent appearance on “Kỷ nguyên vươn mình”, a nationally televised program on VTV1, Prof. Vu Ha Van, Chief Science Officer at VinBigdata, shared compelling insights into the importance of data and the role of data-driven digital transformation.
According to Prof. Vu Ha Van, data is a strategic asset in the technology era. When properly managed and effectively utilized, it holds the key to helping Vietnam narrow the gap with global technological leaders – particularly by serving as the foundation for the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI). Although building a centralized data infrastructure is a complex and long-term effort, Prof. Vu Ha Van emphasized that it is a necessary and strategic undertaking. Once consolidated, data becomes an invaluable national resource – forming the basis for research, innovation, and the development of practical solutions that can solve pressing problems and serve the needs of millions of Vietnamese people.
He also stressed that effective data collection and processing must meet four essential criteria: accurate, complete, clean, and live (meaning up-to-date and actively maintained). At the same time, data must be scientifically managed and responsibly shared in order to fully unlock its potential and turn it into a driving force for scientific and technological advancement.
Across the globe, leading AI applications have been built upon solid data foundations – and Vietnam is fully capable of doing the same. At VinBigdata, comprehensive AI solutions have been developed using extensive, high-quality datasets, and are currently being deployed across a wide range of sectors. These solutions not only deliver cost-effective performance but are also tailored to address Vietnam’s unique challenges.
In addition to infrastructure, Prof. Vu Ha Van highlighted two key national priorities: the development of highly skilled human resources to manage and utilize data effectively, and the creation of a clear strategic roadmap for building secure and scalable data centers.
